Science 300 has a research paper due on Friday, December 17th.
The research is on a Canadian Scientist. In class students were given the requirements for the paper and outline for their reseacrh. We spent 3 classes in the library doing research. Students are to complete their reserch at home or at school during lunch if they did not complete it during class time.

We are learning 30 elements from the Periodic Table. Each student has a periodic table and know which ones they need to learn. In class we have been learning the elements and doing activities to reinforce the learning.

Welcome back to a new school year.
This year in Science 300 we will be using the textbook Nelson Science 9. The first unit we will study is Matter. Each student has been given a course syllabus which outlines details for the course including expectations, evaluation etc.

Science 206 Field Trip

Science 206 will go on their first field trip for the adopt a river project tomorrow, Wednesday May 5th. Students are to go to the bus doors after homeroom. They will return to school before recess. Students are asked to wear approporiate clothing and sneakers or rubber boots. No cameras or cell phones please.

Grade 7 Science Field Trip

On May 25th, science 313 and 309 will be on a field trip with Mrs. Caissy. Permission forms have been given to each student. They need to return these forms signed ASAP.

The field trip is to the PEI National Park for tours on a Pond Ecosystem and Beach Ecosystem. Students will have the opportunity to go dip netting, see beavers and other wildlife who live in the habitat of the National Park. They will also go on a beach walk to learn about the role of dunes, sand and oceans play in our beach ecosytems. In between each of these learning experiences we will have a picnic lunch in the kitchen shelters. Students will return to SIS by 2:30pm.

Grade 8 students in homeroom 206 and 205 will soon be working on a river project. They have 3 field trips scheduled to obtain samples and data concerning their river. Permission forms have been given to the students and they are due back ASAP.

Grade 9 Science 105 and 106 have a term project due on February 26th. They have a choice of doing one of three projects; 1) Science Fair Project and participant in the SIS Science Fair on March 10th, 2) A Slide Show or Movie on a science topic of their choice or 3) A Working Model of Science where they create their own design challenge. All students have been given detailed information on this project. They can do the project alone or with one other science student. If students choose to do a science fair project, they are to follow the guidelines for science fairs found in the folowing link:http://stas.edu.pe.ca/english/sub.cfm?section+science This link will also provide ideas for science fair projects. Any student who wishes to do a science fair project must have their proposal in by January 29th. The SIS Science Fair will be on March 10th at the SIS Gym. The design challenge choices are 1) A Water Purification System, 2) A Recycling System for Plastic, Glass, Metal and Paper or 3) A Mechanical Soil and Gravel Separator. Please follow the design criteria for each project. If students choose to do a science fair project, they are to follow the guidelines for science fairs found in the folowing link:http://stas.edu.pe.ca/english/sub.cfm?section+science This link will also provide ideas for science fair projects. The SIS Science Fair will be on March 10th at the SIS Gym. The Provincial Science Fair is on March 30th at UPEI. Any student who wishes to do a science fair project must pass in their proposal from to Mrs. Caissy by January 29th. All projects (Design Challenge or Science Fair) must be in to Mrs. Caissy on or before February 26th. :)

Grade 7 Science Quiz

Science 313 will have a quiz Wednesday, January 13th and Science 309 on Thursday, January 14th.
This quiz will be the first one in the Pure Substances and Mixtures unit. It will cover the following sections: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.7. A review will be done in class to help students prepare for the quiz.
