Grade 9 Science

Science 105 and 106 will have a quiz on Tuesday, December 16th.
The quiz will cover chapter 3 and 4 in the science book. A review will be done in class. Help classes are available at lunch in room 313 on Wednesday, December 10th and Monday, December 15th. Help classes will be begin at 12:45 pm to 1:15 pm.

Grade 8 Science

Science 206 and 209 will have a quiz on Wednesday, December 17th.
The quiz will cover the folowing sections of the science book; 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7, 2.8 and 2.10. A review will be done in class.

Grade 9 Science

It's Elemental Booklet is due this week.
Science 106 on Wednesday, December 10th
Science 105 on Friday, December 12th

Students were given 3 science classes to complete this work. Any work not completed in class is to be completed at home for homework.

Grade 7 Science

Science 313 will have a quiz on Tuesday, December 2nd.
Science 309 will have a quiz on Wednesday, December 3rd.

The quiz will be the last on in the unit on The Earth's Crust. It will cover the following sections of the book; 4.14, 4.15, 4.16, 4.17, 4.21, and 4.22. A review will be completed in class to help the students prepare for the quiz.

Grade 8 Science

The term projects on a disease have all been presented to class. We have finished the unit on Cells and have begun the unit on Fluids. There will be a quiz before Christmas break.

Grade 9 Science Term Project

Science 105 and 106 has a term project due on Wednesday, December 3rd.

The term project is a research paper on a Canadian Scientist.
Each student signed up for a scientist and we have spent some time in the library and computer lab beginining their paper. Each student will have had three weeks to finish the paper on their own. The paper must follow the format outlined in class and in their agendas. All references must be included.

Grade 8 Science Term Project

Science 206 and 209 will be starting to work on their term project on Monday, November 3rd. Four classes have been allocated to do the research and prepare their class presentation. They can work alone or with one other classmate to research a disease. Their mark will reflect computer lab work, creativity, team work and the presentation to the class. A list of diseases is available for them to sign up for. Any work not completed in class will be the responsibilty of the student to finish at home, at school during lunch, or after school.

Grade 9 Science Quiz

Science 105 will have a quiz on Friday, November 7 th and Science 106 on Wednesday, November 12 th.
The quiz will cover chapter 2 of the book (sections 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9, and 2.11 ). Students must also know the 30 symbols for elements given in class. A review will be completed in class and students will have a corrected review sheet plus their notes to help them prepare for the quiz.

Grade 7 Science Term Project

Students will be doing a term project on Erosion. Please see page 243 in their science book titled "Erosion Proof Field". They can work alone or with one other person. A Design Challenge report is to be passed in with the project. Students have details concerning this project. The due date for the project is November 12th.

Grade 8 Science

Science 206 and 209 will have a quiz on Friday, October 31st. The quiz will cover the following sections of the book: 1.12, 1.13, 1.14, 1.15, 1.16 and 1.25. A review will be completed in class to help the students prepare for the quiz.

The lab "Mining Chocolate Chips" is due on Wednesday, October 1st. Students completed the mining in the science lab but need to complete their analysis for homework.

Lab 1.6 and Lab 1.8 are due on Monday, October 6th. The data for both labs was collected in class and students were asked to complete the analysis for homework.

Lab 1.4 Plant and Animal Cells is due on Tuesday, September 30th. The lab data was collected on September 29 and the students are to complete the analysis for homework.

Science tests for science 309, 313, 206, 209, 105 and 106 have been returned to students. They are asked to have their test signed, correct all mistakes and return to Mrs. Caissy ASAP. Students who pass their test back in corrected and signed will receive bonus marks.

Welcome to a new school year! :)

Welcome to students of classes 309, 313, 206, 209, 105 and 106!
They all will take science in classroom 313. Textbooks will be handed out on Friday, September 5th. Students are asked to take good care of their books and ensure that they have the same textbook number to return in June.

Supplies:
Students are asked to have pens with dark coloured ink, pencils and a scribbler or binder to keep notes for class. Students are also asked to bring their agenda to all science classes.

Each grade level will begin their science year with a short unit on science lab safety. A test will follow before beginning the respective units in the textbook.

Grade 7 Science Quiz

Science 313 and Science 309 will have a quiz on Monday, June 2nd. The quiz will cover the following sections of the science book: 5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4, and 5.6 plus class lessons on PEI Beach Ecosystems. A review will be done in class and each student will have a corrected review sheet to help them prepare for the quiz.

Grade 7 Science Field Trip

Science 313 and 309 will be going on a field trip Thursday, May 29th to the PEI National Park. They will be studying beach ecosystems and pond ecosystems near Stanhope beach. Students will be leaving SIS at 9 am and returning at 2:50 pm. They are asked to wear sneakers, appropriate clothing for the weather, bring a hat, sunscreen, bottle of water and a bag lunch. There will be no place to purchase food or beverages. The students will be eating lunch in a picnic shelter at the National Park. Permission forms have been sent home and need to be returned ASAP.

Grade 8 Science Field Trip

The next field trip for the Adopt a River project will be on Monday, May 26th during period 3 and 4. Students are reminded to dress appropriately for the weather and bring rubber boots. Students will be collecting macro invertebrates, bringing them back to SIS and sorting/classifying them on Tuesday.

Grade 8 Science Field Trip

Science 206 and 209 will be going on 4 short field trips over the month of May and early June. We have to visit the site over a number of trips to collect data to determine how healthy our stream is and to learn about the site. The classes are adopting a river near the Blue Shank Road.

Permission forms were sent home on Thursday, April 24th.
They need to be returned ASAP.

The quiz will be on the Optic Unit. A review sheet will be given to all students and corrected in class to help them prepare for the quiz.

Grade 9 Science Quiz

Science 106 will write their quiz on Thursday, April 24th and Science 105 on Friday, April 25th. The quiz will cover Chapter 5 in the science book plus section 6.1 and 6.2 in Chapter 6. A review sheet and review will be done in class prior to the quiz.

Grade 8 Science

Science 206 and Science 209 will be going on a field trip to the Jubilee Theatre this Wednesday, April 23rd. Permission forms have already been given to students. Forms are to be returned ASAP to Mrs. Caissy. There is no cost for this field trip.

The field trip will be covering some of the Optics Unit that the students are currently studying in class. The focus wiil be lightning, coloring mixing, creating different moods on stage with the variuos light sources, and using filters.

Grade 7, 8 and 9 Science

Report cards will be going home on Tuesday, April 22 nd. Marks will be finalized this weekend. In order to give credit for all work completed , students are asked to have all overdue work submitted to Mrs. Caissy no later than 3:10 pm on Thursday, April17th.

The lab work was completed in class but students need to complete the analysis as homework.

Grade 9 Science

Science 105 and Science 106 are to complete their Alternative Energy Booklets for homework. Students have spent 4 classes in the computer lab working on different forms of energy. Any student who did not complete the work during class time is asked to complete it as homework due on their next science class.

Booklet is due on Tuesday April 1st.

Grade 8 Science Assignment

The assignment on the Confederation Bridge is due on February 21st. This assignment was started in class. Students went to the computer lab for two classes to do this project. Any student who did not complete their work during the two classes was asked to finish the assignment at home.

Grade 7 Science Quiz

Students will write a quiz on Day 6, Wednesday, January 30th. The quiz will cover the following sections of their science book: 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, and 1.5. There are not many sections on this quiz however section 1.2 is large and covers a number of new terms and concepts. Students have been asked to go over this material often at home and ask for clarification in class, if needed. A review will be done in class.

Grade 7 Science Term Project

Grade 7 Science students have a term project due on February 28th. They can choose between doing one of the design challenges on page 62-63 in their science book or a science fair project. The design challenge choices are 1) A Water Purification System, 2) A Recycling System for Plastic, Glass, Metal and Paper or 3) A Mechanical Soil and Gravel Separator. Please follow the design criteria for each project. If students choose to do a science fair project, they are to follow the guidelines for science fairs found in the folowing link:

This link will also provide ideas for science fair projects. The SIS Science Fair will be on March 5th at the SIS Gym. The Provincial Science Fair is on Thursday, April 3rd, storm date April 4th at UPEI.

SIS Science Fair March 5th

Summerside Intermediate School will hold its annual science fair on Wednesday, March 5th in the SIS Gym. Storm date is Thursday, March 6th. The science fair is open to all students attending SIS. The projects will be judged in the morning and the science fair will be open to the public in the afternoon. Students are asked to follow the provincial guidelines for the science fair. All projects must be passed in, on or before February 28th. Projects chosen by the judges to represent our school, will attend the Provincial Science Fair, held at UPEI, on Thursday, April 3rd, storm date April 4th.

Grade 9 Science Term Project

Grade 8 Science Quiz

Grade 8 Science Term Project

The grade 8 term project will be due on Thursday, February 28th. Students can choose to do either a design challenge on Fluids or a Science Fair Project. For the Design Challenge they can do any one of the three design challenges from pages 134-135 in their science book. They must include a report following the scientific method with their project. Students can work alone or with one other student. Each project will be presented to their science class during the week of March 3rd. A science Fair Project can be an alternate choice.
